NGO Shadow Report
Over the last 2 decades, Philippines has submitted six State reports to the CEDAW Committee, with the most recent 5th and 6th combined reports examined at the 36th session in 2006. The following NGO shadow reports were also submitted at the 2006 session:
-
A coordinated effort by 96 NGOs, spearheaded by the Women’s Legal Bureau – the report is a synthesis of the experiences and insights generated from a series of consultations held in 2006, involving more than a hundred women’s groups from areas across the country, the majority representing rural and urban poor women, women workers including migrant women, indigenous and Muslim women and lesbian women. Issues covered include, 1) Women’s Economic Empowerment, 2) Women and the Environment, 3) Violence Against Women, 4) Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights, and 5) Women’s Participation in Public Life.
-
An issue-focused report on reproductive health and rights by EnGendeRights and Reproductive Rights Group – the report addresses the lack of access to family planning and contraceptive methods, restrictions on emergency contraceptive pills, illegal and unsafe abortions, maternal mortality rates, women and HIV/AIDS, violence against women and children, and discriminatory family laws, among other issues.
For some countries, more than one NGO shadow report may be submitted to the CEDAW Committee. These reports can be found on the International Women's Rights Action Watch - Asia Pacific (IWRAW-AP) website at
