CEDAW in Southeast Asia
The emphasis on CEDAW as a defining framework for realizing women’s human rights is both an important and timely strategy for women in the Southeast Asian region. All 10 of the ASEAN countries have ratified or acceded to the convention, and all have constitutional foundations for fostering gender equality. In addition, Timor-Leste, a non-ASEAN country, acceded to the Convention in April 2003.
